![]() ![]() Redfall is due to launch for PC and Xbox Series X/S on 2nd May. ![]() ![]() I've reached out to Bethesda for comment on IGN's report, and to clarify how far along a PS5 version may have been. While IGN France says Redfall on PlayStation 5 saw an "immediate cancellation" upon Microsoft'a acquisition, there's no indication of whether a version for Sony's platform was anything more than a suggestion at the time. Smith described the resulting focus on Xbox and PC as a "good decision", noting the move helps support Game Pass and meant "one less platform to worry about, one less complexity." "They came in and they said 'No PlayStation 5, we're focusing on Xbox, PC and the Game Pass'." "We were acquired by Microsoft and it was a change with capital C," Smith told the website during a recent press event (via Google Translate). ![]() That's according to Redfall game designer Harvey Smith, who, in conversation with IGN France, said Microsoft's stance on Redfall's development was "no PlayStation 5" after the takeover. Regardless of whether Microsoft or Harvey Smith is correct, the future doesn’t look bright for future Bethesda games on PS4 and/or PS5.Microsoft reportedly did not want a PlayStation 5 version of Arkane Studios' upcoming vampire shooter Redfall following its acquisition of Bethesda. Both Starfield and Redfall are exclusive to Xbox, and there are rumors that The Elder Scrolls 6 will follow suit despite being an existing PlayStation franchise. While the Bethesda deal did still allow Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo to enjoy PS5 exclusivity for 12 months, once existing contracts had passed things haven’t been so encouraging. We have always said that future decisions on whether to distribute ZeniMax games for other consoles will be made on a case-by-case basis. All of the games that were available on PlayStation when we acquired ZeniMax in March 2021 are still available on PlayStation, and we have continued to do content updates on PlayStation and PC. We did the same thing since our closing of Minecraft as we extended the reach of that franchise. In fact, we’ve expanded our footprint of games that we’ve shipped on Sony’s PlayStation since our acquisition of ZeniMax, and the first two games we shipped after closing were PlayStation 5 exclusives. We haven’t pulled any games from PlayStation. ![]()
